23) Sports vs. Concerts
My two favorite things to shoot are concerts and sports.
Each offer a live energizing environment with fan interaction and great atmospheres. Capturing them requires different mindsets and telling the story in creative ways.
The one thing they both have in common is access levels. The more access you have when shooting is normally correlated to how close you can get to talent and variations of shots, but limited access shouldn’t mean you can’t get creative. With each however, the highest level of access is preferred.
With concerts, normally a lot more planning goes into it. In the event of multicam shoots, you have to set camera placements based upon crowd location, size, state design, lighting, and band placement. A lot more thought and design goes into it.
In sports, you can usually do everything consistently, and move more freely, at least with football and all access. Sports are unpredictable, you never know what could happen or how the game will turn out, and your content distribution depends on if you win or not. Crowd interaction also plays a big part in videos and photos to tell the story of the event.
