42) My Backup Life: God, Guns, Cowboy Boots, and No Cell Service.

My grandpa had a ranch for several years before he died that became part of our childhood. Since COVID-19 we have spent a lot more time down at the ranch and I've become a bit of a country boy too. How in Athens Texas there is a nice size town but outside of the city you feel pretty disconnected. There is no cell service, you see snakes everywhere, and hearing gunshots across the property is nothing to worry about. That's just the culture. It's kind of nice and refreshing, to take a step back and not have a ton to worry about, slow down your pace of life, and go over to the gas station that sells guns, hamburgers, and beer. What else do you need?

On our property, I have to go outside and ride an ATV to the top of the hill in order to get cell service. This makes it quite fun when you want to talk to your girlfriend at night before going to bed. This is also probably how I've accumulated most of the mosquito bites in my life.

I'm sure that if I really wanted to I could find someway to make money out there I could become a ranchhand or decide to get into cattle. I could also trap hogs, or herd cattle with my drone. Can you tell I’ve done that before to think of such a crazy thing? It’s a nice change of pace from the busy Dallas and college life style.
